Just Me, Myself and Richard

Published July 11, 2013 by dennib68

So I’m a little over a third of the way through a road trip to my Dad’s house near Portland, Oregon. I’ve done this trip every summer since 9/11, and even though it’s a two day trip there and the same back, I love it!

I have all of the time in the world to think about anything I want, listen to any music I want, eat when I want, stop when I want. The best part is I don’t have anyone to interrupt my very lovely thoughts about this man

I love being able to listen to Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Coldplay, Louis Armstrong, Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, Mary J. Blige all mixed up without someone thinking I have a personality disorder. And if I want to listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Kind of Man 4 times in a row and cry while doing it, no one will know…well, except for anyone reading this right now of course **oops**

And I can listen to Richard Armitage read The Siege and Witchfinders as many times as I want!

And did I mention I get to think any lascivious thoughts I want about this man?

Thank you RichardArmitageNet.com for the pictures.

Ahhh! 2 days of me, myself and Richard Armitage! Bliss!

Super Woman and her Super Hero Cape

Published July 3, 2013 by dennib68

Ms. Gigglepants made a comment  on her blog about how we could all use a super hero cape to help us deal with some of the things happening in our lives.  That resonated with me and I felt compelled to use my horrid fabulous kindergarten second grade scribbling drawing skills to draw a Super Woman with a Super Hero Cape as a way of thinking positive thoughts and sending them out to the universe for the lovely Ms. Gigglepants and for me as well.  I didn’t really plan on posting this or sharing it since it really is dreadful the best I could do, but then I read several other blog posts by other women who I admire a lot and felt they could use some Super powers and positive vibes sent their way (The Gifted ServetusPet Defender and Always Entertaining Fedoralady).

Girl Power

So please disregard the obvious lack of talent, and accept my Super Woman dedication in the spirit of how it was meant. I dedicate her to all of you who inspire me, motivate me, and leave me in awe.  At the very least I hope it gives you a bit of a laugh!

Hurray for Equality!

Gay marriage resumes in Los Angeles. Paul Katami and partner Jeff Zarrillo were together for 12 years before they were finally able to wed on June 28.

Hurray for Equality!

Congratulations to all the gay couples who have waited so long to show their commitment to each other in the same way that heterosexual couples have been able to! I like that our outgoing mayor, Villaraigosa, decided to make this one of the last things he did!

Textile Tales: Message in a Sampler

Published June 27, 2013 by dennib68

This is really fascinating…

Dances with Wools

I’ve been a student of textile history for over 20 years, and have never encountered anything quite like this extraordinary sampler from the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Stitched by Elizabeth Parker in the late 1820’s, it tells of her unhappiness and suffering at the cruelty of the family that employed her as a nursery maid. Embedded within the text is this compelling statement: ‘As I cannot write I put this down simply and freely as I might speak to a person to whose intimacy and tenderness I can fully intrust myself.’ She then proceeded to set down in tiny cross stitches her feelings of despair and her suicidal thoughts.

Elizabeth’s life did change for the better when she became a teacher. A fuller account of what is known of her life can be found at the V&A website.

Why…?

Why does this picture affect me the way it does?  I can stare at it endlessly.  My heart flutters, my gut flips over, my breathing quickens….I won’t mention the other parts of my body that he affects.

This is a picture mind you, not the real man.  So why does it affect me so?

Hmmm, do I really need an answer to that question?  Naaa! I think I’ll just go with it and enjoy!
